July 7 Update - Nursing Home Visit
This update came from Shannon Johnston - it sounds like a beautiful time of loving & worshipping!
Robert, Wyatt, Erin, Marde, Rachel, Bethany, Heidi, Grant, Stefan and myself went to the nursing home to visit the residents. The visit was an absolute blessing! When we arrived, there were 6 people sitting on the porch outside, 3 on an upper balcony and 3 in their room but they could see us out the door. Wyatt played the ukulele and Robert played the guitar while the rest of us sang. We sang 3 songs. It was a really sweet time of worship and singing praise to HIM. Stefan translated the songs.
Then we had cake and juice with the men and women that were sitting outside. One lady that really touched my heart last year recognized us and was really happy that we were back again. She said that she is my Croatian baka (Croatian for grandma).
After the snacks, we had a time of crafts. We brought perler beads (the kind you melt with an iron). They had never seen anything like that before. Some of the residents tried to eat them so we had to be careful.
Marde went inside and sat with two ladies and read "Our Daily Bread" to them. That was really sweet of Marde to sit in there with them.
There was a lady that kept looking out of the blinds so I went in to talk to her. I spoke with her as much as I could as my Croatian is very limited. We did understand each other enough. As for everyone that went, maybe we couldn't understand each other verbally but everyone speaks the language of love through a smile, a handshake, a hug or a kiss. As usual, we went to be a blessing and we ended up being blessed!
On a personal note, what a joy it was to see my son singing to our Precious Lord and Savior. It was awesome to see such a tender side to Wyatt. I know God received our worship with a smile on HIS face.
I pray that we will be able to go back again next year. Thanks to Stana for allowing us to be a part of her nursing home. Thanks to God for putting these special people in our lives!
