Fall Croatia Update - November 3

It was a  much better today after a great night sleep. I have to apologize to my wife who had to take my sloppy typing last night and make some sense out of it and change all the mis-spelled words from typing on a Croatian keyboard. I kept falling asleep while I was typing and finally had to quit before I typed something totally illegible.

I must admit that doing a mission trip in the fall with very few people really is different. It makes you miss the activity in the house with a house full getting ready to eat, to get ready or to have devotions. I miss that noise and the voices coming from all corners of the house. Most of all I miss the camaraderie of a group of people gathered together with a common goal and dependence on one another to get it accomplished! Can’t wait for next summer and the hustle and bustle of the many moving parts we bring with us then, to go love people where they are and until they ask why!

What a wonderful day we had today, Sunday, November 3, of worship and fellowship in Sisak Croatia!  Day one of our trip we started the morning after devotions with going to worship with our brothers and sisters at Moscenca Church. It was a wonderful time of sharing and worshiping Jesus Christ with them and the smiles and handshakes and hugs touched our hearts deeply. They are always so appreciative of our coming to worship with them and they send their greetings and love back to everyone in Texas and the U.S.

After church we had an awesome lunch at Coach Daniel’s house. Great food and time of fellowship! We left there feeling like we needed a nap. Zack and Julia’s son, Ezekiel got a few hours of shut eye and the rest of us a couple of minutes worth.  We had only one car with us since a couple of us rode to church with Janko, so I had to make two trips to take everyone home. Joe stayed at coaches house to visit with him a little more while I took the Klebo family home! By the way Ezekiel is quite the eater. You put it down in front of him and he is going to at least try it and only a couple of things have not passed his taste test. His facial expression on when he was asked if he wanted to try water with bubbles and then he tried it, was priceless. Not sure if it was a frown or what, but his twisted expression lasted about a half a minute. He is doing so well for a two and half year old! He is incredible and the people just adore him and his outgoing personality! Hello to everyone is even better than our waves we try to share to everyone and he always gets a response back with smiles!

After picking up Joe, we headed over to Little John’s house to visit with him and his family before he headed back to Priest school in Zagreb. What a terrific and respectable young man he has become and his outward love for God and people is evident the moment he greets you. We have made plans to go up and meet him at his school on Wednesday so he can show us around and introduce us to some of his professors and fellow students. I am really looking forward to spending this time with him and to see what it means to become a priest. He is so excited that we asked if we could come and visit and is looking forward to showing us around.

This evening the Storks and a few of the parents hosted a chestnut roast as I mentioned to you last night. It was wonderful to see all the players and some of the parents there and I can know sing the Christmas song with conviction! We got some of the players to come and play glow ball wiffle ball and we had a blast acting like little kids. The weather was perfect and we had a wonderful time. At the end of the evening around 7 the wind began to pick up and then a little drizzle began to fall. By the time we drove the 3 miles back home to Janko’s the temperature had dropped close to 23 degree. We are now in about 40 degree weather and the high tomorrow is going to be 62. Far cry from the 80 degrees we did have. Feels more like hockey camp weather! Got a chance to share with a couple of the players one on one and that was a blessing. Many have heard us and the message of love and salvation that Jesus brings to us, but have not made a decision to accept and follow him. My purpose is to share one on one with all of them before the week is out to make sure they know personally why we come and God’s love for them through Jesus.

I will write more tomorrow. Please keep us in your prayers as we start the hockey camp tomorrow evening at 8:00. Zack will be leading this one and he could use your prayers of confidence. I am so proud of him for taking the lead on this and Joe and I will be there to support him.

Blessing to you all and have a wonderful God filled day!

David
